There are a number of variables here so there is no definitive answer but here are some examples:
Standard definition broadcast, 480 line, 4 : 3 aspect ratio (i.e. North American standard definition) - There can be as much as 25% of the display unused to create the true aspect ratio of the original film therefore the final line count for the image might be as low as 360 lines.
Standard definition broadcast, 576 line, 16 : 9 aspect ratio (i.e. British and European standard definition using widescreen) - Because the screen is wider, top and bottom masks tend to be smaller. About 15% of the total display may be unused so the image will have around 490 lines. Note that 50Hz European format uses a higher number of lines and widescreen format has been used since the early1990s even for standard definition broadcasts.
HD broadcast, 1080 line, 16 : 9 aspect ratio - HD is always widescreen so once again the maximum mask will be in the region of 15% leaving around 915 lines to build the useful image.
The amount of masking will vary from one broadcast to another depending on the original film format and the compromise between losing edges to increase the height of the image and retaining the full width of the image at the expense of height of the image on the screen.

Dot_pitchdefines the maximum resolution of the display, assuming delta-gun CRTs. In these, as the scanned resolution approaches the dot pitch resolution, Moiré appears, as the detail being displayed is finer than what the shadow mask can render.Answers.comAperture grille monitors do not suffer from vertical moiré, however, because their phosphor stripes have no vertical detail. In smaller CRTs, these strips maintain position by themselves, but larger aperture grille CRTs require one or two crosswise (horizontal) support strips.Answers.com
