Schlitz said that the protocol statements(Carnap's) simplified the facts and expressed them so that they can be easily understood and therefore answer many questions regarding science and the world in general. Since the aspect of an uncertain fact is eliminated protocol sentences then become the start of absolute knowledge of a particular thing. This is of course based on the fact that these statements were made by someone who had observed a particular fact at a particular point in time. The fact that all that we know of science is based on the protocol statements does not make it the source of knowledge as Carnap proposed. It is only at the point that all these statements can be compared and appear to concord with each other on a particular subject can we obtain the knowledge of truth. This criterion forms the foundation of truth.
