Karl Marx is considered the father of Communism because he co-authored "The Communist Manifesto" in 1848 with Friedrich Engels, outlining the principles of a classless society where all production and resources are publicly owned. Marx's critique of capitalism and his vision of a society based on equality and cooperation laid the foundation for the development of communist theory and inspired revolutionary movements worldwide.

Modern communism, although he would deny paternity if he were alive to see the type of communism that exists in today's so called communist countries. Marx saw communism coming about through economic revolution. In Russia, Lenin imposed communism by a political revolution. Marx saw communism as having no government apparatus at all. In Russia, Stalin imposed a government that was harsher on the people than was the Tsarist regime.

With his partner, Friedrich Engels, Marx is generally considered the "father" of Communism. But not just communism - State Communism as practiced at large national levels. This is not the type of communism practiced in small tribal, religious and monastic communities.

If Marx were alive today he would deny paternity of every so called communist state, because the communism in place today is not the communism he envisioned. According to Marx communism would come about through economic forces, whereas communism today came about through political forces. This was Lenin's influence. Per Marx, there would be no state, or government. It would wither away being unnecessary. Communist countries today have super powerful governments. This was Stalin's influence. In addition, there would be no such thing as private property; however in most communist countries the state is the owner of most property.

Karl Marx and his partner Friedrich Engels were the economists and philosophers of what became known as Marxism. Later, in the Soviet Union, this evolved into Marxism-Leninism. This was a result of what Lenin and his colleagues had to do to keep the new Soviet Union "operating". Marx never gave "instructions" on what Marxists should do in any particular manner when the Marxist leaders had to deal with the complexities of governing a major nation that Russia was.
