The alternator on a 1988 Lincoln Town Car is located on the front passenger side of the engine, near the top of the engine bay. To replace it, first disconnect the negative battery terminal, then remove the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner. Unbolt the alternator from its bracket, disconnect the electrical connectors, and then install the new alternator by reversing the process—secure it in place, reconnect the electrical connections, and reinstall the serpentine belt. Finally, reconnect the negative battery terminal.

Remove the belt from your 1998 Chrysler Town and Country alternator. Disconnect the wiring from the alternator. Loosen and remove the alternator retaining bolts. Reverse the process to put the new alternator on.

It is built into the alternator. The regulator is found on the back of the alternator on 130 amp versions. The plugin is a part of it. Just remove the screws retaining the regulator to the alternator and install the new one in place of the old one. On 135 amp versions, it's inside the case of the alternator and replacement is not recommendedlace on that one. Just replace the whole thing.
