Does the tail lights in the middle suppose to come on when the head lights are on?

No. The one in the middle is a brake light, and should only come on when you put on the brakes.

What would make your brake lights not work?

The most likely cause is a bad brake light switch (if none of the brake lights illuminate) but if its only one of the brake lights, try changing the bulb. Even if they still work as running or turn lights because they have a double filament and may still work partially, but not as brake lights.

How many brake lights do you need?

You need a minimum of 2 brake lights, So if your car has 3 brake lights and one goes out, you are still legal. Some cars do not come equipped with 3 brake lights but others do such as a honda civic with a spoiler light do.

How do you fix the brake lights on a 1996 Chevy Lumina?

It depends on the exact problem. If it's that both brake lights in the back do not work and the middle one works, it could be your turn signal switch.

99 Chevy lumina and your two brake lights don't work but the middle one does what could be the problem?

TRY TURNING THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS ON AND OFF A COUPLE TIMES THEN CHECK YOUR BRAKE LIGHTS. WORKED FOR ME.

How do you get brake light and third light working on a ford explorer?

Depending on the year, there may be one fuse for all three brake lights, or two fuses, one for the highmount brake light and one fuse for the two lower brake lights/tail lights. So, if all three brake lights are out, it could be just one fuse or perhaps the brake light switch which is on the brake pedal metal arm assembly.

What if your brake lights work but not the tail lights?

Look for a fuse labeled TAIL LIGHTS. There are 2 separate circuits, one for brake turn and flasher and the other is for tail lights.

You have an 1984 ford bronco tail lights and blinkers work but no brake lights you have tried fuses and the brake light switch but still have no brake lights?

Something you may not realise is that the brake light bulb is often one bulb with two elements. One of the elements will be for the brake and the other will be for the tail lighting for example so,when tested, the actual bulb will still light up because the second element is unaffected. Make sure that the 'blown' bulb that you are actually changing is not in fact your fog lamp. This will not automatically light up when you test your lights as you have to operate this light separately (similarly to indicator lights). So the fog lamp bulb will appear to be the only one not lit up when you test your lights. Find the bulb with two elements inside and change that one. Sounds obvious (and may be obvious to many) but it's a common mistake. Hope this helps!.

What to check when Turn signals and brake lights won't work?

Many cars use the same bulb for the brake and turn indicator. Seems like one is burnt out. Have someone step on the brake and see if one of the brake lights does not respond.

2001 VW Beetle and the brake lights do not work. The fuses and the bulbs are all fine you just replaced the brake switch and the brake lights still do not work what else could it be?

a crappy car. my 99 beetle has the same problem. brake light switch new, bulbs and fuses new. brake lights just work whenever the heck they want. this is one of the many reasons my car has a for sale sign in the window. good luck.

How can someone know if brake lights are not working?

put your foot on the brake pedal and press down while some one looks at the brake light to see if it lights up

1994 subaru impreza brake lights and horn have stopped working and need a WOF asap If it is a fuse which one?

It's in the fuse box under the dash. Look at the cover of the fuse box and it should tell you which fuse is brake lights and horn. On my Legacy it is the middle row, third one in, fuse 12 I think.
