On the 2004 Ford Explorer the fuel filter is located under the vehicle on the passenger side near the front of the gas tank, just behind the catalystic converter. There is a metal heat shield that must be removed before you can access the filter. After removing the heat shield there is a plastic protectant shield that must be removed, then you can get to the fuel filter.
Ford Explorer 2004 does not have Cabin Air Filter or A/C filter.

To access it, you need to remove the glove compartment by detaching the stops and possibly a few screws. Once the glove compartment is out of the way, you can slide out the filter from its housing for replacement or cleaning.
