On a 350 Olds motor, the number 1 spark plug wire typically connects to the distributor cap at the terminal located at the rear of the cap, opposite the rotor's rotation direction. You can confirm the correct position by locating the rotor, which should point towards the number 1 terminal when the engine is at top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke. Ensure the other spark plug wires are installed in the correct firing order, which is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.
Unless it has a BOP (Buick/Olds/Pontiac) motor such as a 307, rotation will be clockwise.
check the distributor to see if you are getting spark. check for fuel filter clog.
If you are facing the engine from the front of your vehicle it will be on the right side of the motor near the spark plugs .
see if there is a small coil in the bottom of the distributor, you have to pull the distributor out to replace it
It's an Olds 403.
DRIVERS FRONT SAME AS GM OR OLDS.
Yes, but you will have to put a compatible computer to run with the 350 olds or the wiring will not be the same.If it is an olds engine with an HEI distributor then this step can be disregarded. Also the motor mounts will have to be customized in order to bolt to your crossmember. You will also have to use the olds transmission, and have the driveshaft cut down and balanced to fit and reduce vibration.
1 - 8 - 4 - 3 - 6 - 5 - 7 - 2 The engine cylinders spark plug locations are numbered : firewall 8 - 7 6 - 5 4 - 3 2 - 1 front ( if this is the 350 in the 1976 Oldsmobile Omega with the front located distributor the distributor rotor turns CLOCKWISE and the # 1 position on the distributor cap faces to the front and slightly towards the passenger side ) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Olds 350 with the rear located distributor , the distributor rotor turns COUNTERCLOCKWISE and the # 1 position on the distributor cap faces to the front and slightly towards the drivers side
To set the timing on a 1989 Olds 88, first ensure the engine is off and at operating temperature. Locate the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley and the timing scale on the engine. Use a timing light connected to the number one spark plug wire, then start the engine and point the light at the timing marks. Adjust the distributor until the timing mark aligns with the specified degree on the scale, then tighten the distributor hold-down bolt and recheck the timing.
you need to loosen front motor mounts, take the bolts out, use crow bar to pull motor forward, put motor mount bolt through the hole, this holds the motor forward, then you can get to the back plugs
In the distributor .
It could be tune up related, fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor cap and rotor. It could also be a bad fuel injector(s).
