∙ 6y agoDNA is made of 2 strands so when it replicates the strands separate and 2 new strands complete the old strands. leaving 4 strands making 2 sets of DNA, both sets of DNA consist of one old strand and one new strand.- Sierra A. Buchanan

DNA replication is the means of producing two identical replicas from one original DNA molecule. This is the basis for biological inheritance.
A protein that is known as Helicase attaches to and breaks apart the hydrogen bonds that are between the bases on the DNA strands. Then it pulls the helix apart. DNA just works as a template to make mRNA (messenger RNA)
Well, literally, DNA replication is DNA copying itself, and protein synthesis is producing protein molecules according to the DNA sequences.DNA replication occurs only once in each cell generation during the S phase of the cell cycle, you might know, but the protein synthesis can occur as many times as needed.As you know, the DNA is double-stranded. In the replication, the strands are separated creating replication fork. However, in protein synthesis, the strands are separated and mRNA is transcribed by RNA polymerase.Protein is synthesized by special molecules known as RNA molecules(mRNA, tRNA, and rRNA), which are not needed in DNA replication.Protein synthesis requires amino acids, whereas DNA replication requires Nucleic acids.

At the first checkpoint of the cell cycle, the cell has to ascertain whether it has all the nutrients and chemical compounds necessary for the next phase, which is Synthesis phase, which is predominated by DNA replication. Replication is a resource-intensive process and so the cell has to ensure it has sufficient building materials for the entire DNA to be replicated, that is, ribose sugar molecules, the nitrogen bases, sufficient ATP producing capability by it's mitochondria to allow the addition of each nucleotide. All this has to be accounted for before the cell can proceed with the process of replication. Besides replication, it also has to ensure all other organelles are also in sufficient number or duplicated for the inevitable cytokinesis during mitosis.
