∙ 10y agoSomatic cell division is called mitosis. That is where a cell doubles its chromosomes and then splits to form two cells with the same number of chromosomes as the original.
Reproductive cell division is called meiosis. It starts where a cell doubles. But then it splits into 4 cells for sperm cells, or a single cell where 3/4 of it dies for ova cells. Either way, the resulting cells have half the DNA as the original. To gain the correct number of cells and start new life, a cell of each type has to come together.
