Facilitated diffusion is passive transport as no energy is used, and a protein channel is all that's required. After that it is simple diffusion down a concentration gradient.

Anything with the word diffusion in it is passive transport. Diffusion is just the principle of passive transport.

Facilitated diffusion is a type of diffusion involving the transport of ions or polar molecules by a trans-membrane protein (channel protein or carrier protein) WITHOUT USING ENERGY.

Active transport is the transport of ions from a region of low concentration to a region of high concentration, against a concentration gradient, by a protein pump USING ENERGY from respiration.

They are quite similar because, for one thing, they both involve movement of ions and require protein for transport. However, the key difference between them is the fact that one requires energy whereas the other does not.
