A British 2 Pence coin minted in 1991 is worth 2 Pence, unless it is a mint uncirculated or Proof coin, both types of which will be packaged to protect the condition and finish of the coins.

It was the spiralling price of copper around 2006 that made copper based coins, such as the pre-1992 1 Penny and 2 Pence coins, more valuable, due only to their high copper content.

The Royal Mint advises -Under Section 10 of the 1971 Coinage Act - no person shall, except under the authority of a licence granted by the Treasury, melt down or break up any metal coin which is currently in circulation in the United Kingdom.

All years of issue of the British decimal 2 New Pence and 2 Pence coins are still potentially in circulation so, unless they are part of a Proof or uncirculated mint set or are individual Proof or uncirculated coins and in absolute mint condition, they are worth 2 Pence.
