John Cena had his WWE debut on June 27 2002. It was a storyline call out (challange) from Kurt Angle. This would have been on Smackdown. Four months later on a Halloween episode he came out dressed as Vanilla Ice and started rapping. The WWE changed his gimmick and this was what led him to the superstar we see now.

So it has been almost 7 years now.
