A LOT of people died (it ranks in the top 5 most deadly earthquakes/tsunamis of all time), buildings were ruined, agriculture was ruined - seawater flooded all the crops, and it had a massive effect on the tourism industry as no one wanted to come because they were worried about another tsunami.

well the environment deteriated and lots of lives were lost. Throughout the next year or so the country had to rebuild there lives and live off everything they could find.
