At times, Black Metal bands are assumed to be "satanic" due to the dark vibe and lyrics. In reality, there is an actual stream of what is called "Satanic black Metal". That is to say, Black Metal bands that consider themselves to be "Satanic" like the bands "Mayhem" and "Darkthrone" to name a few.

no ville valo the lead singer grew up catholic and when reporters asked him what his religion was he said: I'm not sure if i believe in God or not, surly there has to be something behind all of the things and the planet, and i find it hard to beilieve that HIM got this big on its own, so yes i do beilieve there is forces out there helping us and if there is a God, awsome but i dont realy know forsure.

No, they are not satanist. Kerry King claims that he doesn't believe in heaven or hell and just thinks that singing about hell/death/destruction ect. is just way more fun than sining about over used subjects such as love. Tom Araya also claims that he is a christian.
