xenon light bulbs work by using a chamber filled with gas and metal halides. When the lights are turned on, a charge is created between two tungsten electrodes, which create an arc of electricity and vapourise the metal halides. The vapourisation gives off a bright light and lots of energy. This energy excites the xenon in the bulb, which gives off the blue light.

Advantages of using this system include;

-environmentally friendly

-they last much longer than halogen lights

-they are significantly cheaper for car companies to install
