You would reverse rotation on a 3 phase motor to get it to run backwards. Say I fill up a tank truck from a lake. I turn on my generator. I run the motor in one direction. Then I drive the tank truck and the motor to a different location. Then I turn on my generator. I attach the hose to the motor on tank truck. I throw the switch to make the motor run backwards. I aim the hose at the fire in your house. Aren't you glad that I can make my 3 phase motor run backwards?
The answer to that question is entirely dependent on the motor. Many motors have an access plate where the power feeds into the motor. Removing that plate often reveals a wiring diagram that shows how to change the wiring to reverse the motor direction. But most AC electric motors do not provide the option of reversing direction.

From the bottom of the motor contactor's heater block you connect the motor's leads to T1, T2 and T3. If the motor rotates in the wrong direction reverse any two leads on the bottom of the motor's contactor heater block.

The direction an induction motor will turn depends upon the direction of the rotating field setup by the winding. Remember in AC the direction of the current reverses itself 120 times every second for a 60 hz system. So no it will not turn in the "direction" of the current.

A faulty power window switch or faulty wiring. The motor works in either direction (there is only one motor per window), so it's not the motor but the wiring or the window switch. Unless the motor control is damaged, that is. Check the switch for continuity first, then check the continuity of the wiring.
