The thermostat is behind the alternator. You will likely need to remove the alternator to get the thermostat out.
Boosted96GSX's Response:
It is near the alternator which is located on the passenger side of the car, no the alternator does not need to be removed. It is held onto the block by a plastic housing and 2 10mm bolts. Remove the coolant hose and then remove the the housing bolts, swap thermostats out and replace O-ring. Then reinstall. Make sure to have bought VW G12 coolant. You will spill coolant while changing this so be prepared with a pan or something to catch the coolant.
No such thing. The Audi's thermostat has a wax impeller.
i have a 2.0L 2000 jetta and it did the same thing, I had to have the throttle body and 02 sensor replaced.

The Vehicle does not have a blow off valve. so you will never find it.
Check to see if your battery is secure. in my jetta the battery kept sliding forward and smacking my left headlight because it was not tightened down
18t + 4x -47t + 50x = -29t + 54x
They're the same.
Batteries dying after a long period of time not being used is normal. When you drive your car around the alternator charges the battery. But if its just sitting for a long period of time without anyone letting the engine run then just the electronics will kill the battery.
