I believe the early '73s had Generators and the late '73s had Alternators. It depends on what the previous owners put on? (It may have been the '74s tho.) A lot of people put alternators on for a few more amps.
The generators are barrel looking, kinda like a coffee can and the Alternators have a lip or flange all the way around on the rear near the pulley.
10w30 same as a 73 standard beetle
The biggest difference is the 74 has energy absorbing bumpers that the 73 is lacking.
On my 73 super beetle it is about 2100.Yours should be pretty close to that.
I bought a 73 super beetle, sport bug and it was aprox 1800.00
4 x 130mm.
No,71 and 72 superbeetle hoods are longer than 73 and later, that have round windshield and 71 and 72 have flat windshield,by the way the hood is longer than 73 and later.
No. There are kits but would cost a bit-o-money!
Drums on all four corners.
All fuses should be 8 amps (white) with the exception of circuits 9 and 10. These circuits should be 16 amps (red). Hope this helps. also there is a fuse box diagram for a 73 super beetle found on this link (you can find other super beetle fuse box diagrams and wiring diagrams there too) http://www.vintagebus.com/wiring/bug-73+fuse.jpg
No, the hood will not fit. 1965 is pre-Super Beetle; 1973 is post Super Beetle. The 65 hood is going to be much more narrow and arched then a Super Beetle hood or anything past their early transitions to the Super beetle which started to transpire in June of 1971
The Super Beetles started in '71 or '72 and and the main differences are they are a little bit longer and they went to a Strut front suspension. They also went to a curved windshield in '74 or '75. I'm not sure when the standards did. But in "general", everything behind the windshield is the same as a standard, so I'm told. But every year VW made slight changes to them both so some things will fit others and some things won't. The curved windshield on a super beetle started in '73 and had a larger plastic dashboard. Another way you can tell a beetle from a super beetle is the standard beetle's spare tire sits uprite in the front of trunk while the super lays flat on bottom of trunk.
You can go to www.superbeetle.com, they have great info and pictures on how to change your brakes.
