the thermostat is located towards the bottom of the engine you can recognize it by a cable that connects to the front of the middle of the engine and in order to replace it you pretty much have to take the front of the car off
WHAT MOTOR IS IN THE CAR? vr6 V6
I just had the thermostat housing replaced on my 99 Jetta VR6. It's on the right (driver's) side of the engine block. The battery and battery tray should be removed to get access to the thermostat.
To replace the thermostat on a 2001 VR6 Jetta, first ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the battery. Drain the coolant and remove the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing. Unbolt the thermostat housing to access the thermostat, replace it with a new unit, and reassemble everything by reversing the steps. Finally, refill the coolant and check for leaks.
You can buy a Jetta VR6 for example on eBay or carsforsale. Or search a carshop near by you and asked for a Jetta VR6. I am sure you will find you dream car.
2000 Jetta VR6 has a timing chain, NOT a timing belt
