As an abuse Survivor and knowing many others, my personal (not professional) opinion of signs of abuse include: * Become afraid of people, places or things * Become more reclusive * Fear of abuse discovery (Child typically thinks abuse is their fault and that they are bad people) * Become more emotionally bonded to abuser due to "Trauma Bonding" * Become overly passive around abuser (fear and shame) * Become overly intimately physical with abuser and others (in cases of sexual abuse) * Become more easily startled by sounds and/or motions * Become disengaged from people and surroundings * Self-mutilation * Become accident prone (a form of self abuse) * Become involved in dangerous behavior * Begin to have anxiety attacks * Become less self confident * Become bulimic / anorexic (due to self disgust resulting from being abused) * Become a compulsive over eater (trying to stuff down the bad feelings) * Become engaged in truant / delinquent behavior Professionally… From the American Psychological Association web page (http://www.apa.org/pi/preventviolence/elder_abuse.html) I have [modified] their abuse definitions list to make it more general. * Physical abuse. Use of physical force that may result in bodily injury, physical pain, or impairment. * Sexual abuse. Non-consensual sexual contact of any kind with [another] person. * Emotional abuse. Infliction of anguish, pain, or distress through verbal or non-verbal acts. * Financial/material exploitation. Illegal or improper use of [a person's] funds, property, or assets. * Neglect. Refusal, or failure, to fulfill any part of a person's obligations or duties to [a dependent] person. * Abandonment. Desertion of [a dependent] person by an individual who has physical custody of the [dependent] or by a person who has assumed responsibility for providing care to the [dependent]. * Self-neglect. Behaviors of [a dependent] person that threaten the [dependent's] health or safety. Unstopped abuse is progressive; always gets worse and always causes more and more damage. It will not just go away or get better on its own. Best blessings
Passive aggressiveness seems like it would be a result of emotional abuse rather than a cause or type of emotional abuse. But if you think about it, maybe it could cause emotional abuse if like, your around a passive aggressive person consistantly like at home because you wouldn't know how to percieve that person or know their next reaction so yeah, In my opinion I think passive aggressiveness COULD be emotional abuse.

an abuser will abuse for any reason, and believe me, they can find a reason no matter how hard you try to keep the peace. abuse is abuse and they won't stop because you are being "good". what kind of life is it to be passive towards someone just to keep the peace? contact your local domestic abuse shelter to find out the answers, warning signs and how to get out.
