How do you know when coconut cream turns bad?

Unfortunately, it has to be opened before you can tell. And you'll definitely know it's spoiled. Coconut smells awful when it's gone rancid. By all means, do not drink the coconut milk from a rancid fruit and don't use the meat. Nasty, nasty, nasty. Yuk.

Once a coconut is ripe the juice is yukky. It goes all soupy and gross. If you wanna try coconut juice get a green one- before the flesh soaks it up. The brown stuff is probably just the shell. You can buy those drinking coconuts now, at the supermarket, they even get the skin off them somehow. They're white and sort of hut shaped, wrapped in plastic with a label on them. Try one of these instead, if your only interested in the juice, they're heaps nicer.

Smell the coconut and if it smells off of sour, discard and use a different bag of coconut.
