There are more chickens than people in the world. Most government agriculture departments collect and publish figures, which can probably (I've never looked) be found collated at the UN FAO website.

In typical countries there will be about 1 commercial hybrid laying hen for every 2 people. Plus about 2 broiler (meat) chickens being reared at any one time per person. Most people eat more chicken than this per year, but each bird only takes about 7 or 8 weeks to get from chick to slaughter size, so the companies can get several batches through each rearing shed per year. Plus the breeding stock for both layer and broiler types. Plus all the hobbyists/back yard chickens. Plus all the traditional flocks kept in villages & smallholding, especially in less developed countries.

And to complete the general poultry population picture, remember all the ducks (especially in Asia), geese and turkeys.

No one has ever done a census on the total population of chickens. Many are privately owned and are in no register or database but it is probably safe to say that the number is on the order of the number of people and perhaps greater.

there are way more chickens in the world than there are humans. i don't know the figures but considering there are 7 billion humans, id guess it was a pretty big number.
