∙ 12y agoSauron only created one ring by himself; the One Ring. However, he had a hand in the making of the Seven [for the Dwarves] and the Nine [for men] and corrupted these. The only ones he did not and could not touch were the Three elven Rings.

∙ 12y agoThree. It's in this poem mentioned in the first book:
Three rings for the Elven Kings under the sky,
Seven for the dwarf lords in their halls of stone.
Nine for mortal men doomed to die,
One for the dark lord on his dark throne.

∙ 12y agoThere were 20, all created in the 2nd age while Sauron was still fair to look upon. Sauron came to the elves of Eregion and taught them to make rings of power, helping them to make 16 rings: 7 for the dwarf lords and 9 for kings of men.
These rings though not evil had been touched by evil and could be controlled subtly from a distance by Sauron. When Sauron left Eregion the Elves made 3 more rings for themselves. These rings were pure as they had not been touched by evil, so Sauron had no control of them but as they had been made using skills taught to the Elves by Sauron he would be aware every time they were used. When Sauron returned to Mordor he made 1 ring the master ring to control all others in The Cracks of Doom. At that moment the Elves knew they had been betrayed, hid their rings and refused to ever use their power.
This was all long before The Lord of the Rings story, which happened at the end of the 3rd age.

Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie."
So, 20 rings were created ;-)

To answer your question it is twenty (20).
3+7+9+1=20

∙ 12y agoWell, 3 for the Elves. 7 for the Dwarves. 9 for Men. And then the One Ring, to rule them all.
So, 20 in total.

The can be found in The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien. Those characters can be found in The Lord of the Rings. Gandalf and some of the elves can also be found in The Hobbit. The are key characters in the book The Lord of the Rings, which was made into movies a few years ago. After the story ends, along with Gimli, you will find them in Valinor, in the West.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy of films were filmed in New Zealand between 2001 and 2003 : The Lord of the Rings : The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) , The Lord of the Rings : The Two Towers (2002) and The Lord of the Rings : The Return of the King (2003) .
The Dark Lord Sauron made the original rings given to the men and dwarves. He never made or controlled the Elven rings.
The One Ring is a ring of power specially created by Sauron in the Second Age after he had taught the Elves of Erebor to make rings of power and they had finished making 19 of them. 16 of these rings of power the Elves made with Sauron's direct personal assistance, but 3 the Elves made entirely on their own and Sauron never either touched or saw these 3 rings at any time. The One Ring was made to dominate all the other 19 rings of power and eventually bring their wearers/users under Sauron's total control. However when it was made, because Sauron had not participated in the making of the 3, the Elves that had them were instantly aware of his intent and removed their rings refusing to either wear or use them while Sauron possessed the One Ring, so he could not control them. But the 9 humans and 7 dwarves that wore the others had no such warning, with the humans submitting quickly and the dwarves resisting somewhat longer. Unlike the other 19 rings of power, which each bore a jewel, the One Ring was plain. It also had an inscription written in the Black Speech of Mordor that could only be seen when the One Ring was very hot.
The one ring was forged in the fires of Mt.Doom deep within the depts of Mordor. The dark lord Saruon forged this ring in secret and poured his soul into it. He poured his will to dominate and evil into the ring. He engraved upon it (in the basic speech) "One ring to rule them all. One ring to find them. One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them." He used it to control all the other rings. The three of the elves, the nine of the men, and the seven rings of the dwarves.

The One Ring was created by the Dark Lord Sauron during the Second Age in order to gain dominion over the free peoples of Middle-earth.The Rings of Power in J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium are magical rings created by Sauron or by the Elves of Eregion under Sauron's tutelage. However, when Sauron forged the One Ring, the Elves he had tutored sensed its creation and hid the other rings from him. He came to their crafting halls, slew the chief craftsman (who also helped make the Doors of Moria and who inscribed letters onto Narsil), and stole sixteen of the other Rings - the Elves had been able to hide three of them. Sauron, still trying to appear gracious to the other Races, gave seven to the Dwarf-lords. Their Rings were the foundations of their hoards, apparently able to draw wealth to the bearer. Nine of the Rings, Sauron gave to Men, who took them, for the Rings made them mightier and more powerful; with the Rings, they would not die. However, as they would learn later, neither would they live. These Men became the Nazgul, Ringwraiths. The Three were hidden from Sauron - his hand never had touched them in their making, nor had he overseen these Rings' creation (they had been made by the chief craftsman).
They are trees that can walk, talk and do other stuff. The elves made them able to speak. They go and crush Isengard and are much stronger than trolls. (even though the trolls are better in lotr conquest)
