Evolution states that a species will change to become more suited to its environment.

Natural selection is survival of the fittest. The newly evolved version of the species is more fit to survive, therefore thriving.

No, they are actually very different and contradict each other, even though some people think one can't happen without the other.

Natural selection is of of the main mechanisms of evolution. The only one that makes adaptive change leading to speciation. Evolution is the change in allele frequency over time in a population of organisms. Natural selection selects from variant organisms the one who, ultimately, are reproductively successful. That is how the alleles are passed on to the progeny of these successful organisms with the frequencies changed in populations gene pools, which is the same as change in populations.

Natural selection is the process by which forms of life having traits that better enable them to adapt to specific environmental pressures, as predators, changes in climate, or competition for food or mates, will tend to survive and reproduce in greater numbers than others of their kind, thus ensuring the perpetuation of those favorable traits in succeeding generations.

Evolution is the theory that groups of organisms change with passage of time, so that descendants differ morphologically and physiologically from their ancestors

Not exactly. Evolution is the changing of life forms over time. Natural selection is one of the mechanisms that determine how life forms change over time.
