  1. Stop burning fossil fuels and use renewable energy instead.
  2. Plant more and more trees that is by afforestation.
  3. Awareness. Know all the little ways that you can help, like
  • Reducing your electricity use by turning appliances off at the wall.
  • Don't leave lights on unnecessarily.
  • Moderate your use of home cooling and heating.
  • Walk to the corner shop.
  • Ride a bike, or a bus instead of driving.
  • Recycle as much as you can.

More Information:

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is constantly being added and removed from the atmosphere by various processes. This is called the carbon cycle.

Currently, human emissions of CO2 are accumulating in the atmosphere, because the total sources of CO2 are greater than the amount of CO2 being removed by carbon sinks.

The easiest and cheapest way to correct this imbalance is for humans to stop adding CO2 to the atmosphere. To do this we need renewable energy instead of energy produced from fossil fuels.

Renewable energy from wind, solar and other sources does not directly remove CO2 from the air. Instead, it replaces fossil fuel power, and this reduces CO2 emissions, which in turn reduces the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.

Plants, trees and forests take carbon dioxide out of the air. To reduce CO2 levels we can stop deforestation and plant billions of trees all around the world (afforestation).

In addition, there are proposals for removing CO2directly. These include biochar, artificial trees and scrubbing towers, and ocean nourishment. To do all this, we need to begin now.

  • By algae-powered, carbon absorbing lamps. The technology is not in use yet, but it is in research. See the link below.
  • Provide incentives for industries to reduce carbon emissions...world wide.
  • Stop deforestation in 3rd world countries and Tasmania etc.
  • Provide incentives for population reduction and sensible use of energy, i.e. big cities all lit up at night.

Plant more trees and plants! Stop cutting down trees without replacing them!

Being a layman, this answer will be only partial until an expert improves it. One way in which the Earth counteracts Carbon Dioxide [CO2] is that when rain occurs, it absorbs and thus flushes some of the CO2 from the air, creating "acidic" rainwater [carbonic acid], which when falling on "basic" [like limestone for example] materials on the Earth's surface, and then the carbonic acid chemically combines with the limestone, destroying the acid. Another way that atmosperic CO2 is removed is that all green [containing chlorophyl]vegetation [grass, farm crops, and trees for example] need and use CO2 [they "inhale" it, and "exhale" Oxygen (O2)] through their leaf surfaces. The chlorophyl, in combination with sunlight [and water and other nutrients from the soil] convert the CO2 to food material within the plant.

Carbon dioxide is vital to life on earth, and it is something we couldn't live without. It is also a greenhouse gas, which keeps the earth warmer than it otherwise would be.

Recently humans have been adding carbon dioxide, which is warming the planet. Some people say that the current warming started about 10,200 years ago. But it is easy to see that, outside natural fluctuations the current warming has only been occurring for fewer than 150 years. If it were associated with a natural cycle as the interglacials are, there would be a solar forcing to support this. The combination of natural radiative forcings during the last 150 years are an order of magnitude less than those of CO2.

High levels of carbon dioxide in the air make the earth warmer. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that traps the sun's heat rising from the earth.

Would animals reduce co2 levels in the atmosphere?

No, only vegetation growing removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

How will the level of carbon in the atmosphere change if humans do nothing to reduce their impact on the carbon cycle?

If humans continue doing nothing to reduce their impact on the carbon cycle then the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will continue to rise.

How can we reduce your carbon footprint?

If you want to reduce your carbon footprint, you can reduce your emissions of CO2 (carbon dioxide) into the atmosphere.

How do carbon sinks reduce greenhouse gases?

A carbon sink is a storage for carbon. A tree is a carbon sink because it absorbs carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas) from the atmosphere, stores the carbon and releases the oxygen. So forests are major carbon sinks which reduce the levels of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere.

How does cellular respiration effect carbon and oxygen in the atmosphere?

Cellular respiration uses oxygen and generates carbon dioxide. Photosynthesis uses carbon dioxide and generates oxygen.

What has to reduce to solve the problem of global warming?

We have to reduce the emissions of carbon dioxide and methane, the greenhouse gases, into the atmosphere.

Does cutting down forests limit the amount of carbon that is removed from the atmosphere?

Yes, cutting down forests (deforestation) means the trees can no longer remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. To combat this we have to replant the forests (reforestation) to reduce levels of greenhouse gases.

How did the oceans reduce the carbon dioxide levels?

The oceans help to keep the carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere low by dissolving a large portion of CO2 from the atmosphere. Unfortunately, the increased CO2 in the atmosphere is causing the oceans to become more acidic.

What is the quickest way to reduce the build up of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere?

Stop driving cars

What might decrease global atmospheric carbon dioxide?

There is no known way that humans can economically remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere; all we can really do is reduce our emissions of carbon dioxide and slow down the rate at which atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are increasing. The surface waters of the ocean do absorb some carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as atmospheric carbon dioxide level increase, but there is little interchange betwen the warm upper ocean and the deep layers. However over a period of several thousand years, there is sufficient interchange to absorb large volumes of carbon dioxide, allowing the atmospheric concentration to return more or less to normal. Afforestation. Planting trees will remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

What organism are scientists using to eat carbon dioxide?

To reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, scientists are planting more green plants e.g. forests. Green plants require carbon dioxide for photosynthesis.

How much will carbon tax hurt the environment?

Australia's carbon tax means that factories and industries that pollute the atmosphere with carbon dioxide have two choices. They can buy permits that allow them to keep pumping out CO2, orThey can change their industries to slow the CO2 and so cut their payments. The carbon tax will actually help the environment, as it will reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, reducing the levels of greenhouse gases and slowing global warming.
