We are looking for the possible blood types of the PARENTS.
Available information:
HOWEVER: There is more to ABO blood typing that just the ABO gene.
There is also an inhibitory gene that will change any genotype into the phenotype O.
Therefore a person with genetically AB blood can be tested as having Type O.
If the baby's inhibitory gene has been turned "on", then no matter what ABO genes he receives from his parents, he will test out as a Type O.
Blood types A and B are more dominant than O. It is more likely that a baby born to parents who are type A and type O will have type A blood because type A is more dominant.
Parents must be blood type A or O. Any other blood type will not result in a sole A type child. It might result in several other combinations though, which are not relevant to this question.
It's simple ask your Doctor for a "blood type" blood test. If your doctor has ever done blood work on you, he might have your type on file already!
The parents' blood types.
It must have one of the true parents blood types.
Certain blood types are not obtainable in offspring when the parents have certain blood types.
A+ and A- A+ and O-
No - children do not have to have the same blood type as the parents. For example, if one parent has blood type A and the other has blood type AB, the child might have A, B or AB blood types. (For the child to have B, the parent with blood type A would need to be heterozygous, Ao)
Parents of blood type O can only have children with blood type O. Because type O is recessive, you know that the parents are homozygous O.
The blood types are A, B, AB and O. Rh positive or negative are also blood types possible. What blood type we will have is inherited from our parents.
You get your blood type (phenotype) from your parents, each of whom carry their parents blood types (genotype) in their blood. Your ethnicity plays a minor factor because some races tend toward different blood types, but any member of any race can end up with any blood type. Four children of the same parents could all have the different types of blood.
Blood types are not related to body types. Blood is determined by your parents. There are 4 maternal and 4 paternal blood type possibilites. That then gives you 16 different possibilites.
100% of the offspring of type O parents will be type O.
