remove the disc and put the two vertebrae back together. what happens to the nerve?
Twisted vertebrae cause back/neck pain. In some cases, if the twisted vertebrae is in the cervical spine, it can cause nerve damage. Twisted vertebrae can be fixed with chiropracty, or surgery.
Compression of the sciatic nerve between the vertebrae can lead to symptoms of sciatica because it causes irritation and inflammation of the nerve, resulting in pain, numbness, and tingling sensations that radiate down the leg.
Not likely, but a twisted nerve in the neck might.
The spinal cord is a bundle of nerve fibers which is inside of the vertebrae (backbones).

Nerve roots exit the spinal cord between the vertabrae.
Of course it does. Although, as in all vertebrates, the backbone is not a single bone, but a set of vertebrae, small bones linked together, so that the overall backbone will bend, while still protecting the spinal nerve.
The nerve gets pinched between the vertebrae.
The small bones that protect the nerve cord are the vertebrae.
