There is no normal dose of Klonopin, only a range of acceptable dosages, based on a person's ailment and response to therapy.

It varies from <1mg/day to a maximum of 20 mg/day. This (by your doctor), is to be determined by your condition and response to therapy. Adjustments are common until the right dose is found. You know you're taking too much if you feel excessively sleepy during the day.

For example, I have panic disorder and OCD, after a few weeks of dose adjustment, it was found that my best dose was 4mg, t.i.d. (12mg/day) I get zero sedation from the drug, but terrific relief from anxiety.

My sister, who has occasional insomnia but no anxiety disorders, takes 1mg at bedtime if needed. She gets lots of sedation from the drug.

My brother who also suffers from OCD takes 6mg/day He is neither sedated.

Like many drugs there is no "normal" dose. Klonopin (clonazepam) is FDA approved for anxiety and and panic disorder. For both conditions the maximum dose is 4 mg/day. For seizure, the FDA maximum dose is 20 mg/day. In addition, doctors are allowed to prescribe drugs "off label" and prescribe a larger dose. So a person with panic disorder could take 10 mg/day at a doctors discretion.

But most often people take 0.5 or 1 mg twice daily for the treatment of anxiety. However panic disorder often requires a higher dose compared to other anxiety disorders.

This should be discussed with your doctor and can vary from person to person. If your going to ignore that advice I would try .5mg every 10-12 hours as that is low dose at a large time interval and should minimize possible negative side effects.
