Opinions versus Facts:And Sometimes they Collide. The US was in a state of shock as the result of 911 and for many the urge was to Strike Back and to Strike Back hard. No country did this. So who do you strike back at?

Nineteen terrorists carried out this attack and they were fifteen Saudi Arabians, two from the United Arab Emirates, a single Egyptian and one Lebanese. Who do you fight back at? You can't attack the terrorists country of origin because they are essential allies and trading partners who may have delinquents or even dissidents within their ranks.

Find a Target,

Unlike Pearl Harbor there was not a clear and defined aggressor nation to deliver a response to.

(Pure opinion follows.)

America was mandated to respond and to respond quickly. The American public demanded it and the Cheney/Bush White House selected Iraq for an immediate response. A probable error and wasted effort and focus but obedient Military Commanders stood up, saluted and engaged the enemy at the command of the Commander in Chief.

Strike Back Now.

Don't Think, Act and act now.

Afghanistan was placed on the back burner. Technology would cover the gap that boots on the ground could not cover. Technology failed and the core Al Qaeda's leadership slipped into the Hindu Kush. The War on Terror was lost before the first shot was fired. The wrong target had been selected. The wrong strategy had been applied and the tactics failed to put Boots on the Groundwhere they were needed.

The Home-front was even more confusing. Because intelligence had possibly been mishandled a new bureaucracy called the Department of Homeland Security was created. Airport security was tightened. Today that responsibility is in the hands of corporate America under contract. Port facilities remain a point of concern. Borders still leak like a sieve. Has Homeland Security made America more secure, possibly not.

The military is seeing increased mental health issues resulting from second, third and even more tours of duty and that can't make the nation more secure.

The Anthrax letters that were in the mail still has not been resolved and that can't make the nation more secure.

Troops are still maimed and killed by IED's and that can't make the nation more secure.

Gasoline prices remain unstable and that can't make the nation more secure.
