Best Answer

The new enlgand portion had rocky soil and a long winter with not many planing days so they had to resort to fising and other ocean jobs.

the middle colonies had a better summer and planting season and didn't have to fish as much but still had to when it was winter. the soil was also rocky just not as rocky as the new englan colonies.

the southern colonies and almost no rocks in their soil andhad the longest growing season and had the best soil and only fished if they didn't have land to plant.
