∙ 13y agoThe Battle of Antietam was not the bloodiest battle of the US Civil War, but the bloodiest single day of the war and of US history. It was fought September 17, 1862, and lasted about twelve hours. Around 23,000 Americans from North and South were either killed or wounded.
The wost battle of the war was fought at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania over the three days of 1 -3 July 1863. It saw over 51,000 casualties in dead, wounded, or captured.
