During the revolutionary war, the French gave the US money, supplies, and generals for our armies. This led to the Fraco-American Alliance in 1778 after the war which was a binding military alliance. The Franco-American Alliance caused issues when Britain and France went to war and the US stayed neutral. France didn't feel like we held up our end of the bargain on the treaty, so in 1800 the contract was devoid. The US now tends to side with Britain in most political issues and has an underlying hatred of France.
