According to John Adams the role of government is to help the common good of the people. John Adams was one of America's founding fathers and is remembered best for his job as US president, being the second US president. He also served as the first US vice president which helped prepare him to be later the US President. It should be remembered that the entire government system was new. So unlike today, where some do not believe the job of vice president is important, back in 1792, it was an important position.
