In the U.K., the Supermarine Spitfire is a legend, but let's not forget about the HWaker Hurricane and the Hawker Tempest. As for Japan, let's just mention the Zero, which scored many victories. ∙ 11y agoThe B-24 was the most produced bomber with a total of 24,000 built. The B-17 was a popular heavy bomber. The B-29 played a major role in ending the war by bombing Japan.
For the fighters, the P-51 was the best fighter aircraft made.
The C-47 Cargo plane played a major role in carrying paratroopers and cargo and has been identified as one of top 3 inventions used by the Americans in WW2 (the M-1 Garand rifle and the Jeep light truck were the other two).
The light observation plane the L-3 and the L-4 were used everywhere and every theater.
For training, the Stearman PT-17 and the Texan AT-6 (or Navy SNJ) were used to train almost every pilot for the air force and army and navy.
