Thus, manufacturing began to leave major population centers (the big cities ) Also, as transportation costs began to lower, the advantage that the large cities had being close to waterways was cut. In addition, air conditioning made moves by factories to warmer places and employees happen more often. As a result of these factors, most of the largest cities saw a decline in population.
