Scientists then classify each honey bee as belonging to the species andreniformis, cerana, dorsata, florea, koschevnikovi, mellifera or nigrocincta. The species dorsata is placed in one subspecies (Megapis) whereas andreniformis and florea form another (Micrapis) and cerana, koschevnikovi, mellifera, and nigrocincta represent a third (Apis).
