I hope this was true! It really isn't fair that a member of Congress or Senate should be treated as someone special. They make a good living as it is and have lots of perks. So- why do they not pay into SS like the rest of us, and be required to live under the same laws that we do. If the medical insurance plan they just passed is any good, how come they exempted themselves. We vote them there to represent us, not themselves. I really don't understand how we the people have let them get away with what they have done regarding their own benefits. Yes I respect there position, but good grief- there just people just like us.
With all due respect to the author above, this chain-email claim is not supported by facts. I have looked since June for a list of those '35 states', the list does not exist.
Not true; it's a hoax e-mail that's been around for a few years now. There is a proposed amendment, but it has nothing to do with the proposed lawsuit. The governors of a state can't file lawsuit against the federal government, nor can they request a constitutional convention; only state legislatures can do that. Plus, it takes 2/3 of the states to call for a convention, not 3/4. Nothing about the pensions is true either. And congress can't exempt itself from any laws they pass.
No, it's the text of a wildy inaccurate chain email.
Markers that should have been red flags
- Republicans control only 14 state legislatures
- The Attorney General of a State files lawsuits, not the Governor
- State Legislatures call for a Convention, not the Governor
- It takes 2/3 of the States to call the Convention, not 3/4
- The proposed amendment has nothing to do with the ficticious lawsuit
- The email says "Send this to 20 friends"
