This is a phenomena whereby bone remodeling takes place due to gravitational stresses as well as asymmetrical forces upon bones. It is most commonly noted in the spine. A vertebra under asymmetrical forces due to osseous disrelationships with the vertebra above or below. Over time an adaptation takes place causing the vertebra to become wedged from left to right in the body's innate attempt to equallibrate forces acting upon the spine. This may be the source of scoiliosis in some cases. This type of scoliosis is a normal variant, not a pathological occurence.
Pontus Heuter has written: 'Rerum Burgundicarum libri sex' -- subject(s): History
The Heuter-Volkmann law states that bone growth is influenced by mechanical forces. It suggests that excessive pressure on growing bones can lead to growth inhibition, while reduced pressure can promote bone growth. It is important in understanding how physical activity and weight-bearing exercises can impact bone development and health.
