Is there a type of monkey ideal for a house pet?

Most would say the Capuchin, as they are small, not very aggressive, and are easier to take care of more than most other. Please consider buying two monkeys, I know it may seem like a lot but they really need the interaction with other monkeys like them. Not only will obtaining two monkeys be beneficial for them, but also for you because you could leave them alone with each other for a little bit, where as if it was a single monkey it would need attention pretty much 24/7. If you are getting a pet primates, please do your research on them. I fully agree on having them as pets but some states have outlawed them and or you need a permit to have them. Any level of government can outlaw them so not only check with your state, but your county, and city/town. Good luck with your primates.

This is an opinion question, so I will give you mine. None. And, believe me, I am a supporter of integrating the smaller exotic animals into the human environment. I even think it can sometimes be beneficial for them. But monkeys are too big and too clever and too impossible. My parents generation was less confined when it came to owning any sort of animal legally. They briefly kept an ocelot and knew people who kept monkeys. I have seen them kept as companions and, while occasionally this can work, more likely you will get something along the lines of what Mae West got in the seventies: a bored and lonely junior human who doesnt quite intellectually or emotionally age seething its way unto many a conniption, undone by loneliness and fueled by the feces-flinging tantrum. It's up to you, but I wouldn't.

They cost lots of money so think before you buy one. Marmasets and chimpanzees would be the best to buy for your house.

I have done some research on this myself and from what i can tell a squirrel monkey is the best because it is the least aggressive.
