Your dog will need a general anaesthetic to be neutered which there is always a small risk with but as long as he is healthy otherwise, the risk will be very low. Neutering a male dog is a very safe proceedure as the surgeon doesn't need to open the abdomen and the wound is very small. The risks of neutering are FAR outwayed by the risks of leaving him enter- for example entire meale dogs have a much higher incidence of prostate cancer and anal sac carcinoma.

Never. Its proven that you will live up to 3 years longer if you have a pet (dog, cat) to love. So its never to old. or to young. However, you should try to get it neutered as young as possible, preferable 3 months old. But if you still don't have it neutered, it's better than never.
NEVER too late! Vets will neuter as long as they're older than 6 months - this is the ideal time, but anytime after is fine. It just may be more expensive, seeing as how anesthesia is priced based on the weight of your dog (the heavier the dog, the more expensive it will be!).
As long as the dog is six months old or over, it is never to late to neuter a healthy dog.
A dog is never to old to neuter, and when you don't neuter you pet it garintees it will live a shorter life

Yes, an older dog can still be neutered by a vet - however it may be a slightly more difficult procedure. The risk of some complications, like a seroma forming, are higher in an older dog.

If the dog is quite old, there are increased risks for anaesthesia.

So you should discuss this with your vet.

You will need to consult a vet in order to have the broad picture of your pet's health examined. Ring your local vet; they'll be happy to discuss this with you.

No, dogs can be neutered at anytime in their lives. However, is the process actually needed for a dog already halfway through its average life time?

How old is a 20 yr old dog in dog years?

the dog would be 140 years oldIt is a common belief that 1 human year is equal to 7 dog years. That is not very accurate, since dogs reach adulthood within the first couple of years. The formula used above is from a canine expert and is a bit more accurate. (as accurate as one can judge these things)The formula is: 10.5 dog years per human year for the first 2 years, then 4 dog years per human year for each year after.
