4-6 weeks
Recovery time depends on many factors: the general health of the patient, the nature of the injury and the extent of the surgery. Not all patients heal at the same rate. A patient's ability to follow doctor's order has a lot of bearing on the results, too. The best things to do is discuss the matter directly with the surgeon both before and after the procedure.
It depends on the nature of the fracture. Is the talus (that is the main bone in your ankle) the bone that is broken? If so, then how bad is it broken? Is it broken completely in two? Or does it just have a crack in the bone?
If the ankle is broken completely in two, it depends on how soon you sought medical treatment. You usually will need to have a reconstructive surgery in order to "manipulate" the bone back to its original position, and you may have screws and pins put in. It also depends on the reliability and skill of the doctor and surgeon. If you went two days without medical treatment, good luck. The bone may be dead and you will need a fuse, in which they screw the ankle together in such a way that you will not be able to have movement in your foot.
It will usually take a couple of months if the break is severe.
It took my ankle almost a year and a half to finally get put back in "somewhat normal" condition. And I STILL have problems with it, like the alignment of the foot to the ankle and Arthritis, and I broke it 3 years ago and I'm 21!
It can depend on a lot of things - whether any plates or screws were put in, how you're doing with PT, how serious the surgery was... avg time is probably 3-4 months, but it can be longer based on those other factors.
im on my 7th month and still in alot of pain why
