Who was the champion of world sovietism after World War 2?

After World War II, the champion of Communism (or 'world sovietism') was the Soviet Union. While also rebuilding internally from the ravages of the war and modernizing its industry and military, the Soviet Union pursued an aggressive policy of support for (and leadership of) Communist or Communist-sympathetic movements around the world.

Why there was a shortage of food after the war?

For long years after World War II, and during the beginnings of the Cold War, the Soviet Union experienced a severe shortage of food and many other domestic goods and products simply because of ravages of the war. The 'scorched earth' policies of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union itself during the war led to widespread destruction throughout the entire western portion of the Soviet Union.

What caused the fall of bataan in World War 2?

Tactically, a Japanese attack which broke through the American-Filipino line. The breach of the line was serious and the defenders were not able to repair the rupture. This put the Japanese in a position to "roll up" the defender's line. The location of this line was the last defensible place on the Peninsula. There was nowhere left to go, no next position to fall back on and resume defending. The defenders had been on half rations since arriving in the peninsula four months earlier, and soon after that they went on quarter rations. Starvation accumulating over weeks, the ravages of disease, men lost in battle, had thinned the defenders and stretched their line to the breaking point. Supplies of ammunition and medical stores were inadequate. The defenders had no hope of resupply or reinforcement, and did well to hold out for four months.

How did World War 2 affect the European economy?

1. In the approach to WWII Germany, France, Britain and the Soviet Union (and some other countries) greatly increased spending on armaments. In addition, Germany built a strategic road network and invested vast sums in order to produce oil from coal and making synthetic rubber and other substitutes. 2. During WWII most of Europe came under German control and the economies of both Germany and occupied countries were geared to the war. The economies of Britain and the Soviet Union were also very closely harnessed to the war effort. 3. After the war, much of continental Europe was very badly damaged. Perhaps most serious of all was the damage to the communications infrastructure, especially the rail and road networks. This was most important, as it meant that it was difficult to move even essential goods around in many areas. The British economy was utterly exhausted. Throughout the countries that had fought in WWII there was widespread and often severe inflation. Rationing and the absence of many luxury good during the war had forced people to save, but now there was very little to spend the savings on ... Most European countries borrowed very heavily, mainly from the U.S. Towards the end of WWII there were fears that Western Europe would become Communist. In many countries, especially Britain and France, there was a sharp swing to the Left. The war was followed by a very long boom, which lasted with minor hiccups till 1973 and led to rapid recovery from the ravages of WWII. or the marshall plan lent more money then COMECON did.
