Civil War prisons were notorious for their overcrowding, inadequate shelter, and poor sanitation, leading to unsanitary conditions that fueled disease outbreaks. Food shortages resulted in malnutrition, with prisoners often receiving meager rations of spoiled or insufficiently nutritious food. Additionally, harsh treatment by guards and a lack of medical care exacerbated the suffering of inmates, making these facilities sites of extreme hardship and mortality. The combination of these factors contributed to high death rates and a legacy of suffering among prisoners.

Tell them to pound sand and report them to the Better Business Bureau. Unless oh course it is a bad check or fraud or something that you have done that is criminal, but just for a late bill or a bill that you never paid. In the United States we have NO debtors prisons. This comes from English Common Law in which they did have debtors prisons.
