At the beginning of World War II, Japan expanded its territory in the Pacific by capturing several key areas. Notably, they took control of the Philippines, Guam, Wake Island, and parts of New Guinea. Additionally, Japan occupied the Solomon Islands and various other Pacific islands, significantly enhancing their strategic position in the region. This expansion was part of Japan's broader military campaign to establish dominance over Asia and the Pacific.
The conflict areas were called theaters of operation. The European Theater included the Atlantic Ocean as well as Europe and Africa. The Pacific Theater was the drive against the Japanese.

There was no overall Allied commander in the Pacific in WWII. General MacArthur, Adimiral Nimitiz, and Admiral Mountbatten each were supreme commanders in defined areas. MacArthur was designated to command the occupation forces and so presided at the Japanese surrender ceremony.
The purpose of "Island Hopping" was to bypass and cut off certain heavily defended areas that did not serve an absolutely vital purpose in the Allied advance to Japan. By cutting off certain Japanese strong points, the Allies were able to, in most cases, keep those strongpoints from being re-supplied. With no way of being re-supplied, the Japanese troops stationed in those areas would literally starve or die from any of a number of tropical diseases. The primary benefit to this strategy was that by not engaging the Japanese troops in these strong points, the number of Japanese troops available for combat elsewhere would decrease while the lives of many Allied soldiers would be saved. Hope this helps.
Japan expanded its empire in the Pacific primarily through military aggression and strategic expansionist policies during the early 20th century. Following the victory in the First Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895), Japan gained control of Taiwan and later annexed Korea. The Empire further expanded its reach during World War II, launching surprise attacks on territories such as Pearl Harbor and quickly occupying large areas of Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands. This aggressive expansion was driven by a desire for resources, national pride, and the belief in Japan's superiority.
At its height during World War II, the Japanese Empire included territories in East Asia and the Pacific, covering areas such as Korea, Taiwan, parts of China, Southeast Asia, and various Pacific islands. The empire reached its peak in the early 1940s before its eventual defeat in 1945.
In 1944, Admiral Chester W. Nimitz commanded the United States Navy, overseeing the successful blockade of Japanese ports during World War II. As Commander in Chief of the Pacific Fleet and the Pacific Ocean Areas, he played a crucial role in implementing strategies that restricted Japanese shipping and resources. Nimitz's leadership contributed significantly to the overall success of U.S. naval operations in the Pacific theater.
There were no further attack on Pearl Harbour after the first day, but Japanese attackselswhere allowed them ot take over large areas of the pacific ocean.

Both the US and Canadian governments excluded those of Japanese ancestry from the areas of the Pacific coast. In many cases they were interned in isolated camps for up to three years during World War II. While not concentration camps, they were definitely not comfortable for the internees, most of whom were American citizens although the children of Japanese immigrants.
In 1944, the region that lay outside the western limits of the Japanese Empire was India. During World War II, Japan had expanded its territories across various parts of Southeast Asia and the Pacific, but India remained a British colony and was not under Japanese control. The western expansion of the Japanese Empire primarily included areas such as the Philippines, Malaya, and parts of China, but did not reach India.

The Atlantic region of the world is not part of the Pacific region. While the Pacific region encompasses countries and territories bordering the Pacific Ocean, such as those in East Asia, Oceania, and parts of the Americas, the Atlantic region includes areas surrounding the Atlantic Ocean, including parts of Europe, Africa, and the Americas.
