Tobacco and cotton. It was really the only thing holding the U.S economy together. cheap labor, also.
the souths plan was for to wait till the north gave up or got tired like fort Sumter
was the key general of the south during the civil war
The Confederacy was in good shape before General Robert E. Lee became its commander. By all accounts however, Lee was one, if not the best general in the US Civil War considering each side's general staffs.
The north had many factories and rail roads, making them far more advanced then the south. Britain however depended more on the south than the north because they needed cotton and the south was who supplied it. Tax was far better in the North too, it went up 80% during the Civil War. Which was better than the souths 9000%. Think about a gumball being $450. That's partially why the south was defeated my the north.
The true potential of the rifles available during the Civil War was not used because Generals on both sides insisted on using old tactics, without tacking the ability of their weapons into account.
