If the Air Force didn't destroy the army, they could sure isolate the army from any re-supplies; and starve an army to death. The Air Force can fly away, the army's stuck on the ground. WEll PUT SIR!!!!! WE'LL END YOU

Neither president Roosevelt ordered atomic bombs dropped on anyplace.Teddy Roosevelt died in January 1919 and never heard anything about nuclear weapons.Franklin Roosevelt died in April 1945, he was replaced by Harry Truman who authorized the use of the atomic bombs but did not select the targets they would be use on (he left that decision up to the Army).

The second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan. It was two days after the first one on Hiroshima. It was done to convince the Imperial Japanese army that surrender was their only option. Otherwise they would have fought to the death and millions of Japanese and Americans would have died in the invasion of Japan.

The United State dropped the atomic bomb on Nagasaki. Bockscar is the name of the U. S. Army Air Forces B-29 bomber that dropped the the atomic bomb, "Fat Man," on Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. The name, which is painted on the aircraft is a pun on "boxcar," after the name of the aircraft's commander, Captain Frederick C. Bock. For this mission, however, it was Major Charles Sweeney who flew Bockscar. Over the years, some official and unofficial documents have mistakenly called the plane Bock's Car, Bocks Car or Box Car. The name of the bombardier who released the atomic bomb is Captain Kermit Beahan.See Sources and related links for additional information and a photo of Bockscar.

The USA dropped 2 Atomic Bombs on Japan, at Hiroshima, and at Nagasaki. The US used the Atomic bomb to weaken the Japanese military strength as the Japanese still had an army about 5 million strong, but after the strikes the Japanese surrendered unconditionally. The US dropped the bombs in preperation of the proposed invasion of the Japanese mainland. This opertion never happened. The US high command wanted to defeat Japan at the minimum cost of lives as the Japanese army was still strong.

The only time atomic bombs were dropped in combat was in 1945.The last time either the US or USSR dropped an atomic bomb for test purposes was in 1963.When my brother was in the army in Germany doing maneuvers with nuclear antitank landmines, he dropped an atomic bomb on his hand squashing one finger like a stepped on hotdog. (of course this is a different sense of meaning of the word dropped) This was in the late 1970s.Other countries may have dropped atomic bombs for test purposes more recently.
