Marquis de Lafayette was captured on September 16, 1780, during the American Revolutionary War. He was taken prisoner by the British forces while leading a military campaign in Virginia. Lafayette's capture lasted until the end of the war, after which he returned to France and continued his involvement in revolutionary activities there.
