Rydell is the name of the fictional school in "Grease", but there were actually three schools in California used for the interior and exterior shots throughout the movie. The art deco front of Rydell High seen in the beginning of the movie is actually the front of Venice High School in Venice California. (It may look very familiar as it was also used as the exterior front of the school in not only "Grease", but the movie "American History X"). The Track and field and football field (as well as bleachers) were used from Marshall High School in Silverlake (a section of Los Angeles). The football field was also used for the famous "You're The One That I Love" song/dance sequence at the end of year carnival as well. The halls, classrooms, office, principals office, outside lunch area, and the gym used in the dance contest sequence were filmed at Huntington Park High School in Huntington Park, California. (These areas may also look very familiar as some of these same areas and other parts of the school were used in "Grease" as well as "A Nightmare On Elm Street" and "Buffy The Vampire Slayer: The Movie".)
