∙ 14y agoIn the US the answer is probably not. Digital and analog TV broadcasts use the same frequencies and antennas. Digital TV is more fussy about signal quality than the older analog signals. So if you get marginal analog reception, figure on getting a new antenna for digital. The idea that there are special HDTV antennas is just marketing hype. Any antenna that gives you better digtial reception will also give you better digital reception.

∙ 13y agoNo you do not need a digital tv if you have a digital antenna. But you will need a digital to analog converter box if you have an analog tv and a digital antenna.

∙ 12y agoYes. A digital TV antenna will give you better reception as compared to an analog TV antenna. But, a cable box or satellite dish will give you even better reception than a digital TV antenna.

No, you do not need a digital converter box to use a DVD Player, all you need is a TV.
A tv antenna and a digital tv and/or a converter box.
If you have cable or sattlelite hook up at your home, you really do not need a digital converter. If you only are using rabbit ears, you really would need a digital conterter box, so you would be able to watch TV.
Old analog type TVs cannot just be "converted" to digital. You will need a converter box or buy a HD tv.
If the DVR has a tuner, you might have to switch it to antenna from cable. If it has no tuner you might need a converter box.

NO.

where an analog signal is to be converted into digital signal, because in some applications we need digital signal where we have analog signal that is we use an A/D converter
No. You only need a converter box for analog TV and only if you receive your TV "over the air" with an antenna. If you have cable or satellite TV, you don't need a converter.
Digital convertor boxes are meant for those who do not have newer TV sets with digital tuners built-in. The need for these came a few years ago with the digital changeover from the old analog signals. If you have cable or satellite as a provider, you do not need a converter at all. If you are currently using antenna TV and can actually see shows, then you do not need a box, you have a digital tuner already.
A digital converter converts the analog signals that are received by your TV to digital signals. Most TV providers only offer digital TV these days, so you only need it if you're still using analog.

There are several factors that need to be taken into account. First, North America uses 110V while Europe is based on 230V power supplies. Many products will operate on any voltage between 100 - 260V but American products often are restricted to 110V. The only way to find out is to read the label on the equipment itself. It is possible to use a transformer to deliver 110V but they are not cheap. Second, the television signal is different between the two countries. North America uses NTSC at 60Hz and Europe operates on PAL at 50Hz. Again, many televisions will handle both but that cannot be assumed. Lastly, the tuners operate on different frequency bands so it is unlikely that a direct aerial connection will operate. So, it the television operates on PAL, has wide range power supply then maybe it will work in the UK. By the time shipping has been added to the overall cost, it is not likely to be worthwhile to bring a US television to the UK.
Why would you need to hook up a digital converter to a satellite receiver ? Arn't they already digital ? stevecooper75@comcast.net
