The space suit is what protects the astronauts the most, if they did not have these then there would be no more travelling to the space. Astronauts come across very extreme temperatures but luckily they are protected with their complex "suit of armour" that is snug fit and fully tight. At an altitude of 400 kilometres, the temperature can approximately drop from 120 °C to 150°C in a matter of minutes.

There are reflective and insulating layers in spacesuits used outside a spacecraft (for EVAs and previously for lunar exploration). The helmet visors are coated to block UV radiation and most of the glaring light, but astronauts still cannot look into the Sun for long periods. In addition to the heat-reflective coatings, there are layers that block high-energy particles in the solar wind. There are also circulating systems within the suits that keep all parts of the body from becoming either too hot or too cold.

Even greater protection is designed into walls of the orbiting space stations, since the astronauts aboard them are working in a shirt-sleeve environment.
